Apple Reportedly Planning Three Major iPhone Redesigns Through 2027
Apple to Redesign iPhones Starting with the iPhone 17 Air
The iPhone 17 Air could mark the beginning of a bold new era for Apple. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing three consecutive years of major iPhone redesigns. Starting next month, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace the current iPhone 16 Plus, bringing a slimmer profile and Apple’s first in-house modem.
Unlike its predecessors, the iPhone 17 Air will feature:
- A single rear camera for a minimalist look
- A smaller battery for a slimmer design
- No physical SIM slot, signaling a full shift to eSIM technology
While the standard iPhone 17 will maintain a design similar to the iPhone 16, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are rumored to feature a newly redesigned rear camera module.
Foldable iPhone Expected in 2026
Looking ahead, Apple reportedly plans to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026, internally codenamed V68. Gurman notes that prototypes are already being tested in black and white finishes.
Key details about the foldable iPhone 2026 include:
- Four cameras in total: two rear, one on the outside, and one inside
- A custom Apple C2 modem for improved connectivity
- An in-cell touch panel on the inner screen to reduce creasing and improve accuracy
This model is set to compete directly with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup and could represent Apple’s most ambitious design shift in over a decade.
iPhone 20 Curved-Glass Design for 2027
To commemorate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, Apple is reportedly preparing the iPhone 20 curved-glass design. Launching in 2027, this device is expected to look dramatically different from current models and could mark Apple’s biggest hardware evolution since the original iPhone.

This anniversary model is being described as a “major redesign”, setting it apart from incremental updates and reflecting Apple’s push to redefine smartphone aesthetics.
What This Means for iPhone Fans
If these reports hold true, Apple enthusiasts can expect:
- 2025: iPhone 17 Air with Apple’s first in-house modem
- 2026: A game-changing foldable iPhone
- 2027: The futuristic iPhone 20 curved-glass edition
Apple’s strategy highlights its focus on blending innovation, design, and future-ready technology to keep the iPhone at the center of the smartphone market.
