Google Pixel 8 Pro Reportedly Features Built-In Infrared Thermometer

In a recent hands-on leak, it has been revealed that the upcoming Google Pixel 8 Pro will come equipped with a built-in infrared thermometer. This unique addition is located under the circular LED Flash within the camera hump on the back of the device.

The infrared thermometer on the Pixel 8 Pro is designed to measure body temperature, similar to most contactless thermometers commonly used during the pandemic. To utilize this feature, users are required to bring the phone close to their forehead without direct skin contact. By tapping the start button and moving the phone towards the temple within five seconds, the device completes the temperature measurement and alerts the user with a vibration.

One potential drawback of this feature is the placement of the thermometer on the back of the phone, with the screen facing away from the user during temperature measurement. Unfortunately, a video demonstrating the feature’s functionality was uploaded to YouTube but subsequently removed due to a violation of YouTube’s Terms of Service, as the platform is owned by Google.

Although the user experience may not be ideal, the built-in infrared thermometer on the Pixel 8 Pro ensures that users can easily scan body temperatures in the future, without requiring any additional hardware. Notably, this exclusive feature will only be available on the Pro model, distinguishing it from the standard Pixel 8.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro is anticipated to be unveiled in October alongside the Pixel 8. Both devices are rumored to be powered by Google’s custom Tensor G3 SoC. The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to feature a slightly smaller screen compared to its predecessor, with a size of 6.52 inches. Additionally, it is said to incorporate Samsung’s largest ISOCELL GN2 sensor for its primary camera.

With this innovative infrared thermometer feature, Google aims to offer a unique functionality that sets the Pixel 8 Pro apart from other smartphones on the market, ensuring users are prepared to monitor temperatures when needed.
